Skateboarding and BMX Freestyle in Olympics?

Skateboarding and BMX Freestyle could become Olympic sports, but skateboarding organizers and advocates are examining if it should happen through cycling.

There have been discussions and efforts behind the scenes regarding skateboarding and BMX freestyle being included in the Olympics. At present, neither discipline is included in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, but they are a possibility for 2016 in Rio de Janiero. Inclusion in the Olympics requires approval by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and for that to happen, it’s imperative that sports have an official international governing body. One option strongly being considered is having skateboarding being included with BMX freestyle under the umbrella of BMX cycling, which was first included in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
